Cell Phones, Brain Cancer, and Antioxidants

Despite periodic reports of a cell phone—brain cancer link, there is no scientific evidence that the brain can be harmed by cell-phone emissions, we hear from neurosurgeon Edward Laws, Jr., MD. A recent study from Sweden found the same incidence of brain tumors among cell-phone users and non-users. (A difference in the type of tumor may have been a statistical fluke.)

To lower your risk of brain cancer: Take supplements of vitamin E and other antioxidants. They may protect the brain from destructive processes—just as they protect other parts of the body.

Edward Laws, Jr., MD, is professor of neurosurgery and internal medicine, University of Virginia, Charlottesville and a Bottom Line/Personal subscriber.
