Alternative goes mainstream
In a phone survey of 1,500 people, 42 percent said they had used alternative medicine in the past year, says Landmark Healthcare. The most popular treatments: herbal therapy and chiropractic care. Of those who sought alternative treatments, 30 percent said their visits to medical doctors have decreased. 

Calcium crunch
According to a report on risk for stress fracture of female U.S. Army recruits, research shows that calcium may be lost through perspiration. If your workout leaves you in a puddle of sweat, don't stop exercising: Keep your bones strong by getting at least 1,000 milligrams of calcium daily, suggests committee chairperson Barbara Schneeman, Ph.D., professor of nutrition at the University of California-Davis.
